Sightwell Connectivity

Get started

Sightwell gives your iPhone, iPad and Mac private access to your organisation's Sightwell systems. Your organisation runs its own Sightwell server, and the app connects to that server and to your organisation's sign-in service.

Before you start

You need an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later, or a Mac with macOS 12 Monterey or later, and two things from your organisation's IT team:

  • Your server address. It is usually sightwell. followed by your organisation's domain, for example sightwell.your-company.com.
  • Your work account. You sign in with the account your organisation already uses, for example Microsoft Entra ID. Your organisation's multi-factor and device rules apply.

Sightwell doesn't route your general internet traffic. It only carries traffic to the systems your organisation makes available to you.

The steps below are for iPhone and iPad. For a Mac, see Sightwell for Mac.

Install

  1. Install Sightwell from the App Store.
  2. Open the app and tap Connect to your organisation.
  3. After the fixed https://, type your server address, for example sightwell.your-company.com, and tap Continue.
  4. Sightwell explains that it adds a VPN configuration. Tap Continue, then Allow when iOS asks. iOS may ask for your passcode or Face ID.
  5. Allow notifications if you want to hear when you need to sign in again, or skip them.

Connect

  1. On the Connection tab, turn on the switch.
  2. Sign in with your work account. If your organisation has set up Microsoft sign-in for the app, Microsoft Authenticator or Microsoft's sign-in sheet opens. Otherwise your organisation's sign-in page opens.
  3. The sign-in sheet closes by itself and the status changes to Connected. Your name and, if your organisation sets one, your role appear under the profile name.
  4. Tap Open Sightwell, or the middle tab, to use your organisation's Sightwell app.

Try the demo

You can see how Sightwell works without an account. The demo connects to Alder Cove Energy, a made-up company with made-up data.

  1. On the first screen, tap Try the demo.
  2. Choose who you are today, for example Site engineer. Each role reaches only what that person would.
  3. Allow the VPN configuration, turn on the switch on the Connection tab, then tap Open Sightwell.

To try another role, tap Change role on the Connection tab. The demo profile stays available after you add your organisation.

Several organisations

Sightwell keeps a profile for each server. Tap the profile name at the top of the Connection tab to switch, or manage profiles in Settings › Profiles. Switching disconnects first.

Disconnect and sign out

  • Disconnect: turn off the switch. You stay signed in.
  • Sign out: Settings › Profiles, choose the profile, Sign out. Your organisation may also sign you out after a set time; Sightwell then asks you to sign in again.
  • Remove: delete the app as usual. That also removes its VPN configuration and the data it kept on your device.

Sightwell for Mac

Sightwell for Mac works on Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors.

Install

  1. Download the latest Sightwell-version.pkg from Sightwell releases on GitHub.
  2. Open the file and follow the installer. macOS may ask for your password.
  3. The Sightwell icon appears in the menu bar. In the welcome window, click Continue.
  4. Under Management server URL, enter the address your IT team gave you, for example https://sightwell.your-company.com, and click Continue. Sightwell checks the server before it goes on.

If your organisation sent you an Add to Sightwell link, open it instead: it fills in the server for you.

Connect

  1. Click the Sightwell icon in the menu bar and choose Connect.
  2. Your web browser opens your organisation's sign-in page. Sign in with your work account.
  3. When the browser says you're signed in, go back to Sightwell. The status changes to Connected.

Add and switch servers in Settings › Profiles, or from the profile menu in the menu bar.

Disconnect

Click the Sightwell icon in the menu bar and choose Disconnect.

The demo is only in the iPhone and iPad app. To share logs from a Mac, see Share logs.
